Alice
Doster
Jun 4, 1931 — Mar 6, 2025
Alice M. (Charette) Doster of Tiverton, RI passed away peacefully on March 6, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 4th, 1931, in Fall River, MA to Thomas and Alice Charette. She was the wife of the late Lester B. Doster and sister to the late Thomas, Raymond and Donald Charette. Alice was the embodiment of independence, strength, resilience, and compassion. Alice had the strong ability to bounce back from many of lifes' challenges, affectionately earning and embracing the nickname "tough old bird".
Alice was raised in Fall River, later moving to Tiverton, RI to raise her own family. Alice was artistic, often enjoying ceramics, drawing, and repairing any sewing request from a family member including frequently injured stuffed animals. Although Alice enjoyed her privacy, she comfortably socialized with any and all family members, but with those outside the family, she was a tough nut to crack. Once cracked, you were in. Alice loved to laugh, especially if it was one of her sons telling the jokes. She was a creature of habit and enjoyed her weekly Friday hairdressing visits for many decades, especially with the friends she made at her appointments.
Alice was the loving mother of Elizabeth Lavoie (husband Alan), Gail Doster (husband Cliff) John Doster, Sr (partner June), Susan Richardson (husband John), and Gary Doster (wife Laura). In addition to her children, she leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild who will continue to cherish the memories they shared. Alice's legacy will live on not just in the lives of her family members, but also in the hearts of all those whose lives she touched. Her unwavering spirit, her boundless love for her family, and her strength will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew her.
As Maya Angelou once said, "I sustain myself with the love of family," Alice embodied this sentiment, deriving her strength from the love she received and gave to her family.
Donations in lieu of flowers, can be made online at www.HopeHealthCo.org/InMemory or sent to HopeHealth Hospice, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904
