Ambrose “Michael” Claus, 76, formerly of Needham and Medway and most recently of Fall River, passed away peacefully at home on September 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer.

Michael was a proud graduate of Needham High School (Class of 1968) and Boston College (Class of 1973). In his early adulthood, he owned the White Hen Pantry in Framingham, where some Red Sox players were among the customers he later loved to tell stories about. Michael later opened the Delihaus closer to home, where his daughters have fond memories of stopping in for cream soda and soft-serve ice cream. He later worked in sales, a natural fit for him, as he could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Even after retiring, Michael returned to work because he enjoyed getting out and being around people.

Sports were a lifelong passion of his. Michael was a devoted fan of the Boston College Eagles, Red Sox and the New England Patriots. But nothing compared to watching his grandchildren participate in youth sports. He could often be found at the baseball and football fields or basketball courts, proudly cheering them on — and was just as proud to cheer on his granddaughters at their dance recitals.

More than anything, Michael loved his family. He shared his life with his loving partner, Cindy Proulx. He was the proud father to Caitlin Claus and her partner, Rondey Chaney; Danielle (Claus) Chamberlain and her husband, Stephen; and Jaclyn (Claus) Bennett and her husband, Lorenzo. He was a devoted grandfather to Jaida and Brielle Chaney; Matthew, CJ and Alex Chamberlain; and Myla, Cashe and Preston Bennett. Michael is also survived by Cindy’s daughter, Nicole Pelletier, whom he loved as one of his own, and her son, Wyatt.

Michael was predeceased by his parents, Ambrose Joseph and Margaret Claus, and his sister, Patricia Keating, and her husband, Jack. He is survived by his siblings, Mary Beth Claus Tobin and her husband, Mark, and Robert Claus and his wife, Mardy. Michael also shared a very close bond with Cindy’s siblings, Brenda, Chris, Billy, Paula and Michael, who loved him dearly. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Michael found joy in life’s simple pleasures — a cold Bud Light, a cookout over a holiday weekend surrounded by family and friends, or sitting around the table playing cards, especially a good game of Pitch. He cherished his traditions, particularly lobster on the Fourth of July and Boston Cream Pie on his birthday. These are traditions his children and grandchildren will proudly carry on.

Michael will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love of sports, the stories he told (and retold!), and above all, his deep love for his family.
