Barry
Hutchinson
Mar 12, 1935 — Jan 10, 2025
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Barry Hutchinson, who gently departed from this world on January 10, 2025, at the age of 89. Born in New Bedford, MA, on March 12, 1935, Barry spent his life exuding warmth and kindness to all who were fortunate enough to cross his path. Barry, a lifelong resident of Fall River, Massachusetts, was never married, yet he was never alone, always surrounded by friends and patrons who were drawn to his vibrant spirit and infectious optimism.
Barry was a beloved figure in his community, serving as a bartender in the food and beverage industry for many years. His profession allowed him to connect with countless people, becoming a constant in their lives as he poured drinks and shared stories. In the words of playwright Tennessee Williams, "I've got the strangest feeling I'm not myself anymore. It's a pleasant sensation." Barry embodied this sentiment, being the source of joy and comfort for so many, and losing himself in the service of others.
Barry was a man of simple pleasures, who found delight in everyday occurrences. Barry loved his trips to Foxwoods, and taking his chance of luck! He was known for his love of a good joke, his appreciative palate, and his ability to make everyone feel at home. He carried the wisdom of his years lightly, using it to guide others rather than to lecture. He was the heart and soul of Fall River, and his absence will leave a void that can never truly be filled. His life was a testament to the words of Maya Angelou, "My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style."
Barry was preceded in death by his parents. He was a beacon of goodwill to all around him, and his legacy of kindness will continue to inspire those who knew him.
We invite everyone who knew Barry to share their memories and upload photos to his memorial page, celebrating the beautiful life he led. His spirit will live on through our shared stories and the impact he had on our lives.
