Carlton Welcome, a beacon of inspiration and an embodiment of strength and vitality, passed away on October 21, 2025. Born on July 18, 1963, in Boston, MA, Carlton spent most of his life in Canton, Massachusetts, making it a better place through his love of sport and community. An adored son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, Carlton's effervescent spirit and infectious love for life left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
In the words of Helen Keller, "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all" and Carlton chose to live his as the former. He spent 20 years as a personal trainer and sports referee, dedicating his life to the service of others' well-being. His passion for sports, particularly football and basketball, was not only a hobby but also a tool he used to inspire and motivate the younger generation. As a referee for youth basketball, Carlton was a pillar of support and guidance, fostering a sense of sportsmanship and camaraderie amongst the young athletes. His love for music, particularly old school R&B, was another facet of his radiant personality, often captivating everyone around him with his heartfelt singing.
Carlton is survived by his children, Larrice Welcome, Jerrell Engermann and his long term partner Joanne Chui, and Jordan Mycroft, who will forever cherish the memories of their loving father. His mother, Shirley Adams, and siblings, Lisa Headen, Christopher Welcome, Linda Richardson, and Princess Welcome-Odoms, will remember Carlton as a source of unwavering love and support. His five grandchildren, extended relatives, and friends will carry his legacy and the effervescence of his spirit in their hearts. Maya Angelou once said, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Carlton's warmth, love, and vibrant personality will be etched in the hearts of all who knew him.
