Carolyn Moore was born on December 25th, 1926 in Norwich CT, which inspired her father to name her Carolyn as a pun more then anything.

Carolyn was the youngest of the six children of Clara E. Willey (Moore) and George W. Moore. As the baby of the family she was always called 'Babe' by her siblings. She spent her teenage years in Barrington RI and lived there during the Great Hurricane of 1938, tall tales of which she told of bicycling home from school in the storm on her Hercules bicycle. Or so we were led to believe the hurricane was chasing her home…

She earned her Master's Degree in Fine Arts at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia in 1949. There she studied oil painting and painted landscapes in a Post-Impressionist style. She could make just about anything, from ceramics to braided rugs, upholstery to curtains to caned chair seats, and dabbled in woodworking, weaving, doll-making, crocheting, and knitting. She could not, however, cook.

In the 1950s and 1960s she had art teaching posts at Moses Brown School in Providence RI and Apponequet High School in Freetown MA.

She loved Bermuda and took many solo trips there, finding painting inspiration in the picturesque towns and landscapes. In 1960 she married Walter S Crane III and they bought a derelict old 200 year old house in Assonet MA and restored it. Walter and Carolyn took trips to Europe on a motorcycle and across America and Nova Scotia in a VW Camper, before raising their family in Assonet. She was active in the Fall River Art Association in the 1970s and continued to be a prolific oil painter well into the late 2010s.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her five older siblings, and her husband. Her children are Thalia Took and Tara Crane, who are both themselves artists, having been brought up by her to follow wherever their creativity led them.
