FALL RIVER... Derrick D. "Master Barber" Lewis, 59, of Fall River passed away July 3, 2023, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Birmingham, AL, he was the son of Wilma Lewis of Fall River and the late Johnny Douglas. He was the loving companion of Lori Medeiros for the past 4 years. Mr. Lewis was the owner of the former Straight Edge Barber Shop on Pleasant Street which he operated for over 10 years. He earned a bachelor's degree from Mary Holmes College, in West Point, Mississippi before going to school to become a "Master Barber" in Quincy, MA, and taught other barbers his craft at Rob Roy Academy - Cosmetology School in Fall River. He was an avid Celtics fan and enjoyed playing basketball as well. He started a softball team through his barbershop and in his younger years had been a singer in the group "The Untouchables". He took great pride in his appearance and was always dressed to the nines. Most notable was his kind heart and willingness to help those in need. Along with Wilma and Lori, Derrick is survived by his children: Derrick R. Lewis of New Hampshire, Marquis Bennett of Raynham, Deandra Lewis of New Bedford, Shanice Lea of Washington state, Nemiah "Nemo" Lewis of Fall River, and Camryn Lewis of Fall River; 7 beloved grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Visitation to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Sunday, July 16, 2023, from 4 - 8 PM at South Coast Funeral Home, 1555 Pleasant Street Fall River, MA 02723. Interment will be private.
