Diane
Gaskell
Dec 9, 1944 — Nov 2, 2024
Diane Gaskell, a compassionate soul and a culinary artist, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2024. Born on December 9, 1944, in Fall River, Massachusetts to Roland and Germaine Bouchard, Diane was a beacon of joy, love, and warmth to everyone who knew her. She was a woman of remarkable talent and an infectious spirit, making the world a better place through her presence and her passion for feeding others. Emily Dickinson once wrote, "The mere sense of living is joy enough," and Diane embodied this sentiment, finding joy in the everyday and sharing it with others.
Diane was well-known and warmly regarded as the former owner and breakfast chef of Diane's Kitchen on Ocean Grove in Swansea. Her culinary creativity manifested in her scrumptious omelettes, fluffy pancakes, and innovative twists on muffins. Her kitchen was a haven for those seeking comfort in food and companionship, and her supportive nature was evident in her desire to ensure everyone had a hot meal. Her unique culinary talents were only surpassed by her warm-heartedness, and her laughter was as nourishing as the meals she prepared.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Diane was an avid lover of music, particularly that of Carole King, and she enjoyed simply sitting back and appreciating the world around her. Her spirit was like a melody; it was harmonious, uplifting, and it left a memorable echo in the hearts of everyone she encountered. Diane was a beacon of light in the lives of many, a testament to her funny and vivacious character. Louisa May Alcott once said, "I am not afraid of storms for I am learning how to sail my ship," and Diane's resilience and zest for life were a testament to her fearless navigation through life's storms.
Diane is survived by her loving daughter, Michelle Lafferty. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Gaskell, and her parents, Roland and Germaine Bouchard.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 5:00 PM at the Southcoast Funeral Home, followed by a celebration of Diane's life at 7:00 PM presided over by Chaplain & Life Celebrant Ines Bates at the same venue.
As we gather to honor Diane's incredible life, let us remember her not with sadness, but with the joy and laughter she generously shared throughout her lifetime.
We invite you to share your memories of Diane and upload photos to her memorial page. Diane's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and delectable meals shared with those she held dear. Let us remember her in the same way she lived - with warmth, generosity, and a zest for life.
