Elizabeth Ann (Mattos) Michel, age 90, passed away on April 21, 2026 with loved ones by her side.
She was a faith-filled woman and a hard worker who dedicated her life to caring for her family and friends and anyone in need. Children always held a special place in her heart and she spent many years teaching Head Start and then volunteering at a preschool. She later worked as a bookkeeper until her retirement. Elizabeth, known to many as Betty, was a great cook and she enjoyed reading, sewing, arts and crafts, and most of all, spending time with her family. Elizabeth was born in Fall River, MA, to the late Antone and Antoinette Mattos.
She was predeceased by her brothers William and Richard Mattos, and her grandson Isaac Philip Lapointe. She is survived by her brother Raymond and his wife Pat; her daughter Denise Furtado and her partner David, her daughter Cheryl Michel, and her daughter Donna Lapointe and her husband Philip. She was grandmother to Guy Furtado and his wife Julie, Cliff Furtado and his wife Stacy, Alexandria Michel, and Victoria Michel and her fiancée Eddie. Elizabeth was great-grandmother, known by them as "Veeza Vo," to Grace, Mya, and Kyle Furtado as well as soon-to-be-born Baby Marin. She was "Grandma Betty" to David, Concetta, Justin, Sarah, Ayla, Kyler, Ellie and Jo. She also had many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Friends and Family are cordially invited to attend the public visitation will be on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 8:00 AM at Southcoast Funeral Home inside of the Ferreira Chapel, 1555 Pleasant Street, Fall River, Massachusetts, 02723. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:00 AM at Saint Stanislaus Parish, 36 Rockland Street, Fall River, Massachusetts, 02724. The committal service will be held at 10:15 AM at Notre Dame Cemetery and Mausoleums, 1540 Stafford Road, Fall River, Massachusetts, 02721.
