With heavy hearts and an abundance of love, we announce the departure of Gail Wood Chapin, born on the 13th of April, 1950, in Westport, MA, USA. Gail transitioned peacefully on the 12th of August, 2026. Gail, a life-long resident of Fall River, Massachusetts, was an empathetic soul, a beacon of compassion, and a woman of undeniable strength and resilience. She was a thoughtful and loving individual, whose light touched everyone blessed to cross her path.
Gail Chapin, a proud dietary aide, spent her life nurturing and caring for others. Her life was a testament to her faith and her belief in the love of Jesus Christ. The verse "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another" (John 13:35) was not just a verse to Gail, but a way of life. She embraced her disability with grace, choosing to focus on the joy of life rather than the challenges she faced. Her hobbies included spending precious time with her children, watching her favorite shows, listening to music, and spreading happiness with her radiant smile and kind words.
Gail was a devoted mother to Wesley Mendes and Keri Chapin, a beloved sister to Sharon Seed and Lori Shalhoub, and a proud grandmother to Tavon, Aveon, A’Layna, Levi, and Mirelly. Her love for her family was a badge she wore with pride everywhere she went. She was the embodiment of love and warmth, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those she leaves behind. Gail has been reunited in Heaven with her parents, Charlotte Flechsig, and Melvin Wood.
As we honor Gail's remarkable journey and celebrate her life, we invite you to share your memories, stories, and photos of Gail on her memorial page. Your contributions will serve as a comforting reminder of the love and joy Gail brought into our lives. Let us remember her as she was - full of love, full of life, and forever in our hearts.
Friends and Family are cordially invited to attend a public visitation which will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 from 08:30 AM - 10:30 AM at the Southcoast Funeral Home, inside of the Ferreira Chapel, 1555 Pleasant Street, Fall River, MA 02723.
