James J. Faris Jr. 79, passed away on August 24, 2026 surrounded by family. Jim was born in 1946, on Rodman St. in Fall River, Massachusetts. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving two tours in the Army Signal Corps as a SP4. Jim was proud of his service and his country and supported many veterans causes.
He loved to talk to everyone. One of his favorite questions was "How much did you pay for that (fill in the blank)". He had connections throughout the city and felt it was his responsibility to work those connections to help solve problems for his family and friends. His brain never stopped solving problems, often to his family's chagrin. As a Master Electrician, he understood the construction trades and loved advising people on how to deal with repair and construction issues. Jim loved to joke and tease, and was happiest when his targets gave it right back. Underneath everything was a generous and compassionate soul who wanted everyone to be happy.
Jim was a Master Electrician in the Fall River school department until retiring. Following his retirement from the city, he worked in building maintenance at St. Peter and Paul school, where he was a critical resource as part of the school administration team, keeping the facility up and running with dedication and professionalism. He was a favorite of the students and loved them all as if they were his own. He served on the Trades Advisory Board for Diman Regional High School for many years. Jim was a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), reflecting his deep love for his country and his fellow veterans. His love and dedication towards his family, friends, veterans, and country was unwavering.
James is survived by his sons, Christopher Faris (Michelle), Keith Faris (Kristel), and Kevin Faris; his sisters, Barbara Jaryna (Michael), Mary Lou Amaral (Carlos), and JoAnn Faris (Fred Hussey); his grandchildren Alyssa Faris, Ashley Faris, and Peter Faris; and his former wife Pauline Faris. Jim was preceded in death by his father, James J Faris Sr, and mother, Alma Faris.
Family and friends are invited to gather and to pay tribute to James's remarkable life on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 4:00 PM inside the Ferreira Chapel at the Southcoast Funeral Home, located at 1555 Pleasant Street, Fall River, Massachusetts, 02723. James's memory will forever live on in our hearts.
The funeral home offers a lighted parking lot which is available on the corner of Boutwell and Pleasant Street, (opposite corner of the funeral home) and our facility has a handicap-accessible ramp and entrance.
We encourage you to share your favorite memories of James and upload photos on his memorial page. Let us celebrate his life and remember the adventures, laughter, and love he shared with us all.
In lieu of flowers, Jim would appreciate a contribution to the Veterans Association of Bristol County, 755 Pine St, Fall River, 02720, or a veterans organization of your choice.
Services are humbly entrusted into the care of Southcoast Funeral Homes at Ferreira Chapel "Celebrating A Life Well Lived"
