John Christopher Burt, 65, of New Bedford passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.

John was a man of strength, resilience and courage. His journey through life was a testament to the power of the human spirit to endure and thrive despite the most challenging circumstances.

John was preceded in death by his loving parents Edmond and Charlotte Burt. He was survived by the love of his life, spouse, Melissa Beth Audette, his brother Jeffrey Burt and his wife Mary of Dartmouth, sisters Cathy Shachoy of Middleborough and Roxanne Burt of New Bedford. He was also uncle to 5 nieces, 2 nephews, 3 great-nieces and 2 great-nephews.

John was a proud veteran of the U S Coast Guard and always felt at peace on the water. He enjoyed camping with friends in his younger years and more recently, he enjoyed walking to Common Park to feed the squirrels.

As we mourn John's passing, we also celebrate his life, his spirit, and cherish the many stories he shared with us. He was known as fiercely independent, and he held fast to his unique values.
