NEW BEDFORD... John A. Thurston, 90, of New Bedford passed away July 29, 2023, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in London, England, he was a son of the late Frederick and Nellie (Floyd) Thurston. Mr. Thurston dedicated his life to serving in the United States Military, serving in the United States Air Force, and retiring in 1976 as a BMC in the United States Coast Guard. He graduated from Fisher College with an associate degree in accounting and business. He was a member of the Free Masons and enjoyed antiquing, yard sales, reading, admiring landscapes and spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his daughters: Tracey Thurston of New Bedford and Kelly Thurston and her companion Kevin of Fall River; stepdaughter, Diane Courture; his sisters: Carol LaBerge and her husband Alfred of Fall River and Susan Gray of Newport, RI; his grandchildren: Zachary Boutin, Jordan Thurston, Erica Tavares, Cameron Thibeault, and Clayton Raposa; his great granddaughter Jada Thurston along with many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Nancy Boutin, grandfather of the late Jaryd Thurston and brother of the late Frank Thurston, Marjorie LaBerge, Barbara Souza, and Janet Pacheco. A celebration of life for John will be held at a later date.
