Obituary

Joseph Manuel Torres, 78, passed away on April 17, 2026 at his home in Dighton, Massachusetts.

He was born on June 15, 1947 in Agua Retorta, São Miguel, Azores. The son of the late Antonio Resendes Torres and Maria Isabel Torres. Joseph was the youngest of thirteen children. He was predeceased by his siblings Alfred, Antone, Luis Torres, Madeline Do Monte, Margaret Resendes and Isabel Resendes and his late son-in-law Gregg Workman.

Joseph made his home in Fall River, Assonet and Palm Springs before returning to Massachusetts, where he spent his final years. Joseph was a hard worker, he built a career as a bricklayer and construction worker, taking pride in what his hands could create. He worked hard building bridges and walkways at various parks until he retired. He had a gift for bringing stories to life, and that great, rolling big laugh of his stayed with everyone who knew him. He loved nothing more than hitting the open road taking long drives up the coast and visits to New Hampshire White Mountains. He loved spending time at the poker tables, enjoying a good game with his beloved cousin John Meneses.

He is survived by his sister, Maria Overlock; his daughter, Lisa Workman; his sons, Joseph Torres Jr. and Alfred Torres; his daughter-in-law, Melanie Torres; and his grandchildren, Cameron Workman, Alexander Courchaine, Joshua Torres, Zachary Torres, Hannah Torres, Sarah Torres and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private gathering will be held with his immediate family. Joseph will be cremated, and his memory will live forever in our hearts.

We invite you to share your memories and photos of Joseph on his memorial page. As we navigate this difficult time, let us remember Joseph not for his departure, but for the extraordinary life he led, the people he touched, and the legacy he leaves behind.
