Obituary

Judith May Barber "Judi" passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025 in Fall River, Massachusetts, surrounded by her loving daughter and family after a long, gallant fight with cancer.

Judi was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on May 29, 1958 but spent her youth in Attleborough Falls, Massachusetts. She lived the majority of her life in Florida, first on the Gulf Coast but eventually living for many years in Lantana, near West Palm Beach.

Judi spent her career sewing canvas into beautiful sails and bimini tops for boats and eventually sewing fabric awnings for commercial buildings. Each project was a testament to her dedication and flair. She was known in the industry as an artist, her products filling both an aesthetic and practical need. Although talented and focused with needle and thread, Judi would argue that her greatest accomplishment was her children and grand children.

Family and friends remember Judi as an unyielding force on the outside but with the heart of a dove on the inside. Her daughter Melody called Judi, "her own opposite. Tough, but full of love." Judi would bluntly point out truth, but just as quickly forgive a perceived hurt. She was happiest on the deck of the Old Key Lime House in Lantana, Florida, where she was known as "Groovy Judi" and the "unofficial Mayor" of the bar. Her laughter and grit still echo among its patrons who recall her spirit of resilience and kindness.

Coming to the end of her life, Judi returned to Massachusetts and lived with her daughter Melody, who cared for her unselfishly.

Judi is preceded in death by her parents Clifford and Anna Stauff, sisters Barbara Reilly and Linda Johnson and brothers Clifford Stauff and Michael Stauff.

She is survived by her daughter Melody Rondeau, son-in law Michael Rondeau, son Daniel Bertram, grand children Aiden Rondeau, Tyler Bertram and Grayson Bertram, brothers John Stauff, Gary Stauff and Kevin Stauff, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Fall River, Massachusetts on August 23, 2025.
