On the evening of August 17th 2026, Leilani “Lani” Eileen Martin Beaudry, 69, of Portsmouth RI, Born the middle child to Mary “Mollie” Elizabeth Martin (Died April 2023) and James M. Martin Sr. (Died November 2000) in South Carolina on July 13th 1957, passed on peacefully at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River MA, with her child Shane-Newt Beaudry sitting quietly beside her. She passed from a short, year long battle with Liver Cancer. Despite the ups and downs, cancer did what cancer does best and took a strong soul from the world.
Leilani’s life was lived eventfully. She lived in various places across the United States, especially in her younger years as part of a military family in South Carolina, North Carolina, and California, but later spent large amounts of time in her home town of Portsmouth Rhode Island and working at Disney World's Epcot, living in Orlando Florida, working in food service. Her last place of residence was Portsmouth RI. She also spent her early years in Portsmouth and later attended Portsmouth High School, as well as Community College of Rhode Island later in life, taking classes in nursing, a career she ultimately never pursued. Instead, she dedicated her time to being a full time mother to her only child Shane-Newt Beaudry. She aspired to help people when and wherever she could. She had various jobs in food service, as well as spending a long period of time in car service at Saccucci Honda located in Middletown RI, a place where she made many friends. Leilani enjoyed attending and working at fair's, operating others, and her own booths with her handmade crafts. Specifically, renaissance fairs. She spent a stint of time working at a booth at King Richards Faire, and passing that passion of the time period and life onto her kiddo and family. She put time aside each fair season to visit said fairs and the friends she had made there. Throughout her whole life she pursued various types of photography, specifically with a love of photographing animals. She eventually self published a children’s ABC’s book with her own photography and writing, called “A B C Animal Safari” with her name and her artist brand name “Zartiphin”.
In later years she dedicated her time to working with children and the elderly. Serving the Portsmouth RI school system as a Bus Monitor, assisting children to and fro schools on and off Aquidneck Island, as well as finding joy in being an in-home nanny and babysitter to many children. She also worked as an elderly caregiver to many people who she built friendships with alongside their family, aiding them in some of the most challenging chapters of their lives . She loved spending time with each and every child and person she cared for, helping support families, watching children grow, hearing the stories of those that have lived a lifetime, and creating life long relationships that later bled into her own family. Family not by blood, but by choice. Everyone knew Leilani as a kind soul and one of her nicknames became “Mary Poppins” - Ironic as her own mothers name was Mary - , as she carried bags with her, seemingly magically appearing with toys, gifts, crafts she handmade, and doling out life advice and mottos to all those around her. The children called her “Lani” and they loved her dearly.
Unfortunately, there were many things in life she wanted to complete or be around for, that she will be unable to now. But she did do much on her bucket list. She had her child, she got to have a life and family she wanted. She visited Disneyland and Disney world. She homeschooled her child and made sure their life was filled with joy and life. She got to see Niagara Falls with her mother Mary Martin before both their deaths. She traveled to Forks, Washington to visit the setting of some of her favorite movies - The Twilight Saga. Traveled to New Orleans, French Quarter, Louisiana and Covington, Georgia in one long road trip with her kiddo, again two places that had filming of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, two of her favorite shows. She used to claim that should vampires exist, they are more than welcome to give her a visit and bless her with immortal life. A cruel reality that a disease would take her so soon, when all she would wish for was more time and more life. She went to as many holiday events as she could and loved exploring Newport RI, New Hampshire and Maine. She attended multiple concerts and plays that she always wanted to. Selena Gomez, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Pentatonix, Wicked, The Lion King, Cirque Du Soleil and many more. She went to many Lindsey Stirling concerts and got the honor a few times to meet and speak with her. Her last concert of Lindsey’s being in Boston, on July 15th 2026 for her birthday, just one month from her passing. She enjoyed watching many Hallmark Christmas Movies year round, she loved “Call the Midwife”, “Sherlock”, “Murder She Wrote”, “Father Brown”, “NCIS”, “Bones”, “America’s Got Talent”, “Murdoch Mysteries", “Warehouse 13”, “The Big Bang Theory”, “Castle” and just truly any Christmas Movie and show she could get her hands on. Her favorite movies, unnoted, were “The Greatest Showman”, “Rocky Horror Picture Show”, "Avatar” and “Pitch Perfect”. She had a special love for Johnny Depp, Hugh Jackman, Jim Parsons, and Cher. She loved Mickey Mouse, Eeyore and Stitch. Her favorite flowers were carnations, hydrangeas, and lilacs. She enjoyed Orange Sherbet, Carrot Cake, and Ice Cream. Her favorite animals were White Tigers and Dolphins. These loves will be represented and hold a place at her celebration of life.
Finally, in 2024 she began finally getting the tattoos she always considered and wanted, a tattoo that was still complimented on, in her final days. A White Tiger she photographed herself with the setting of ‘Pandora’ from “Avatar” and a full moon. Tattooed by the mastery of Jakki Hicks at Elegance Piercing & Tattoo Inc. In Worcester MA. A piece she was unfortunately never able to finish, but her child Shane-Newt has made a promise to one day finish for her, on themself.
Leilani’s life was filled with love, peace, happiness, sadness, family, friends and every animal she has ever cared for with a fierce love. Leilani was preceded in death by her mother Mary “Mollie” Elizabeth Martin (2023) and father James M. Martin Sr. (2000). She is survived by her child Shane-Newt Beaudry and their partner Gavin J. DeMoranville, a person she learned to love as her own son and housed in the last year of her life. She had hopes of one day seeing Shane-Newt and Gavin marry and looked forward to the day she could officially call him her son-in-law. She is also survived by her animals Sherlocke (dog), Feydra (dog), Cricket (cat), and Lonnie (guinea pig) and leaves them in the care of Shane-Newt and Gavin. Additionally survived by, siblings James Martin Jr. and Heidi (Martin) Farrington and between them her niblings, Christopher Martin, Samara Gagne, Elizabeth Agin, Patrick Agin and Morgan Agin as well as their children. Her Great-Aunt Janice “Mimi” Ashton and through her, Leilani’s cousins Donnie Ashton, Karen McKenna, Don Ashton Jr, Jeff Ashton, Jennifer Beaudry-Levasseur and Jessica Beaudry-Tamulonis, and their children into extended family as well.
It is Leilani’s family's hope that she was greeted on the other side by her ancestors, and her animals that have waited at the other end of the rainbow bridge. Notably, the following - Dogs: Niklaus, Darwin, Gandalf, Sammy and Saturn. Cats: Jinx, Sonic, Arnold and Harry. Rabbit: Oreo. Guinea Pigs: Knox and Bee. Rats: Ichabod, Eddie, Cisco and Sheldon. And many more.
Lastly she leaves behind countless friends and children she has cared for who will live on for her in her name, making their lives as big and beautiful as her own. Leilani “Lani” E.M. Beaudry was a loved member of the world. “She made an impossible world, feel possible..” She will forever be missed.
