With a heart full of love and pockets full of sunshine, we celebrate the spirited life of Maria Luisa 'Belkys' Abreu, who left us on June 7, 2026, just shy of her 65th birthday. Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on June 19, 1961, Maria was a woman of passion and joy, effortlessly spreading her warmth and cheer wherever she went.

Maria was a loving and supportive homemaker, her own home in Fall River, Massachusetts being a testament to her diligence and care. Whether it was a perfectly fluffed cushion or a delicious meal, every corner of her home told a story of her nurturing spirit. She was the kind of woman who made life beautiful for those around her. She was, as Maya Angelou fittingly said, "a rainbow in someone else's cloud." Maria's vibrant spirit was her signature, ensuring that those who knew her were never short of a smile or an uplifting word. She was truly an inspiring woman.

Maria is survived by her loving daughter, Christina Contreras, who was the apple of her eye, and her cherished legacy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Perez and Antonia Almazar, who undoubtedly instilled in her the values of love and compassion that she carried throughout her life. As author J.K. Rowling stated, "The ones that love us never really leave us," and Maria's love continues to guide and inspire us.
