Obituary

It is with profound love and deep sorrow to announce Maria Laura Oliveira departed from us on June 26, 2026. Born on May 8, 1937, in Agua de Pau, Portugal, Maria Laura was a loving, compassionate, and resilient woman left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were privileged to know her.

A devoted homemaker, Maria Laura's home was a sanctuary for all. Her heart was as big as her capacity to love, and her compassion was a testament to her unwavering faith. Her kindness touched everyone she met. She would gladly give the clothes off her back to help someone in need. Above all else, her greatest love was her faith in Jesus Christ, which guided the way she lived and cared for others. Her resilience in the face of adversity was a testament to her faith in Jesus Christ, as stated in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

A natural peacemaker and unwavering truth-teller, Maria Laura had a remarkable ability to leave a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know her. Maria Laura was a lover of classic films, a passionate singer, and an avid reader of the Bible. Those who knew her well knew the way to her heart was often through a simple sweet treat— a French cruller, a queijada, or candied almonds would always brighten her day.

Maria Laura's legacy is carried on by her children, Daniel Oliveira(Maria DaLuz Oliveira), Maria Alda Ponte(Adelino Ponte), José Oliveira(Candida Oliveira), Isabel Silva(Benjamin DaSilva), Dinis Oliveira, Sandra Oliveira(Paulo Depina), and Ricardo Oliveira. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Paulo Jorge Ponte(Caterina Ponte), Carla Lima(Marco Lima), Erica DaSilva, Vera Sebastião(Micheal Sebastião) Andre Ponte(Debra Ponte) Joshua Depina (Melanie Pizarro) Kayla Depina(Joseph Cardoso), and Jacob Depina. Great Grandchildren: Kaleigh Cote, João Pedro Lima, Beatriz Ponte, Matteo Sabastião, Jayla Cardoso, Gabriel Ponte, and Miguel Ponte, who were the joy of her life. Maria Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Serafim and Maria Franco.

Maria Laura faced life's challenges with unwavering determination and resilience. She never allowed adversity to define her; instead, she overcame it with strength, faith, and grace. Above all, the greatest lesson she leaves behind is the importance of loving one another. Her legacy of faith, kindness, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

In celebrating Maria Laura's life, we encourage all who knew and loved her to honour her memory by sharing stories, photos, and cherished moments on her memorial page. Maria Laura's love, courage, and compassion touched us all, and she will forever live in our hearts.
