Obituary

Marie Ann Maloney, of Taunton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Monday September 28, 2026, after a long illness.

Marie was born in Methuen, Massachusetts, on July 26, 1964, to Agnes Maloney, who predeceased her in 1979. Marie was raised in communities throughout Massachusetts before settling in the Taunton area as a teenager, where she graduated from Taunton High School in 1983. As a young woman, Marie found family in Barbara and Ken Palmer, who became a steady and loving presence in her life and provided her with the support, care and a sense of family that meant so much to her.

Marie is survived by her children, John Sylvester of Attleboro and Annie Maloney and her longtime partner, Jeremy Louise, of Mansfield. She also leaves behind her beloved cat, Hunter, who was by her side for more than 12 years and was a cherished part of her life. Although Marie did not have grandchildren, she lovingly referred to her daughter’s dogs, Mabel and Winston, as her “grand pups” and took her role as their “gramma” very seriously.

Marie was a social person who was happiest when she was with her people. Quirky and silly, she lived her life exactly the way she wanted. She loved the holidays, especially Halloween, was a lifelong lover of music, and never turned down a good party or a coffee date with her friends. She enjoyed camping, fishing, getaways to Onset and the Cape, perusing flea markets for her next treasure and the occasional trip to the casino. She was a creative spirit who found great joy expressing herself through painting, drawing, and a number of other artistic pursuits over the years. She also had an impressive sweet tooth, a large collection of ever-full candy bowls, was a big fan of Dunkin’ ice coffee and was luckier than most with one-dollar scratch tickets.

Marie had gone through more than her share of hardships, but her faith in God and the support of the people around her gave her the strength she needed to find her way forward. She was a courageous and resilient woman with a deep understanding of the complexities of life and an extraordinary capacity for compassion. Marie was a helper who found purpose in being of service to others and was always willing to do whatever she could for someone in need. To her, there were no strangers, only friends she hadn’t met yet, and when a friend needs help, you help them.

Marie’s family would like to thank the many people who cared for and supported her through the years, especially her CCBC team, Deb, Zack, Kathy, Rob, Debbie, the staff at George Street and Compassionate Care Hospice. There is no way to adequately express how important your roles were to Marie or how grateful her family is. The family would also like to acknowledge her friends Gary, Monica, Dennis and Diane, who loved her for exactly who she was, kept her laughing and made sure there was never a dull moment. The joy you brought to her life meant so much to her, and to everyone who loved her.

A service to celebrate Marie’s life will be planned for a later date. Details will be shared when arrangements are finalized. Those who would like to attend are invited to contact her daughter Annie at a.maloney508@gmail.com

Services are humbly entrusted to the care of Southcoast Funeral Homes at Ferreira Chapel "Celebrating A Life Well Lived"
