It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Nancy Mendonca, who left us on January 24, 2025. Born Nancy Elizabeth Morango on September 10, 1947, in Fall River, Massachusetts, she was a beacon of love, strength, and resilience who touched many lives and created countless beautiful memories. As Albert Schweitzer once said, "The only thing of importance when we depart will be the traces of love we have left behind."

Nancy, a lifelong resident of Fall River, was a devoted homemaker who found immense joy in nurturing and caring for her family, friends, and anyone who crossed her doorstep. She had an infectious laugh, a knack for storytelling, and a penchant for the intricate art of Portuguese embroidery. Her home, always filled with the aroma of homemade bread and the sound of Fado music, was a warm haven for all. Her door was always open, her table always set, and her heart always ready to embrace. She was a woman of strength, who, despite her own challenges, always found the strength to help others. As Helen Keller beautifully expressed, "Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved."

Nancy was the beloved mother to Jacqueline Cabral and Mark Mendonca, who survive her. She was predeceased by her parents, Antone and Delia Morango. Her legacy lives on through her children and the many lives she touched. She will be remembered for her unwavering love, her hearty laughter, her warm heart, and her enduring spirit. As the poet Maya Angelou wrote, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Nancy made everyone feel loved and cherished.
