Obituary

We are saddened to announce the passing of Paul Ronald Fontaine on February 1, 2026. Born on November 3, 1947, in Fall River, Massachusetts, Paul was a man of simple tastes and profound wisdom. He was an individual who, in the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "did not go where the path may lead, but instead, where there is no path and left a trail." Paul lived his life according to his terms, and for those who knew him, they can attest to the singular and distinctive journey that was his life.

He was an avid reader, a lover of nature, and a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. His laughter, wisdom, and unique perspective on life will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his daughters, Dawn Riley-Baptista, and Kim Fontaine, who inherited his love for life's unique journey and his strength of character. His cherished granddaughters, Taylor Fournier and Samantha Rosen; and great-granddaughters, Mauve Rooney and Emory Rosen. He also leaves behind his sisters, Claudette Pacheco-Solitro, Susan Ksen, and Patricia Heaslip; his brothers, Keith and Ken Fontaine; and an extended family of nieces and nephews across the United States and Portugal. Paul was preceded in death by his adoring parents, Norman and Jean Fontaine.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, located at 709 Hanover Street, Fall River, Massachusetts, 02720. Following the Mass, a committal service with military honors will be conducted at 12:45 pm EST at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, located at Connery Avenue, Bourne, Massachusetts, 02542.

In the words of Henry David Thoreau, "It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see," Paul Ronald saw beauty in the ordinary, wisdom in simplicity, and joy in the journey. As we remember and celebrate his life, we invite all who loved him to share their memories and photos on his memorial page. Your stories and pictures will help keep his unique spirit alive in our hearts.

Services are humbly entrusted into the care of Southcoast Funeral Homes at Ferreira Chapel "Celebrating A Life Well Lived"
