Paul Zarlenga, affectionately known to many as simply Paul, passed on September 14, 2024. Born in the heart of Fall River, Massachusetts, on December 13, 1947, he left an indelible mark on the city he loved. As Marcus Garvey said, "A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots." Paul's roots ran deep in Fall River, and he held firm to them throughout his life.

Paul was a man who knew the value of hard work and the satisfaction of a job well done. For many years, he was a dedicated construction worker, a master of his craft. His hands helped shape the face of Fall River, contributing to the city's growth and development. His work was a testament to his strength and resilience, a physical manifestation of his dedication to his community. Like Muhammad Ali, he believed that "Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth." He paid his rent in full, over and over again.

In his personal life, Paul was a loving brother and a pillar of strength. Despite his parents, Guido and Helen Zarlenga, preceding him in death, he ensured their memory lived on, in stories and in shared family moments. His sister, Maureen Zarlenga, survives him, carrying the legacy of their shared family history. As we remember Paul, we recall the words of Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Paul made Fall River and its people feel seen, valued, and loved. His legacy is one of hard work, dedication, love, and unwavering commitment to community.
