It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruben Asencio, who departed this world on January 24, 2026. Ruben was born on June 6, 1959, in the heart of New York, New York, and he spent his latter years in the serene city of Fall River, Massachusetts. Throughout his life, Ruben was a beacon of dedication, perseverance, and warmth, leaving an indelible impression on everyone who was fortunate enough to cross paths with him. As Mother Teresa once said, "We can do no great things, only small things with great love," and this was a sentiment that Ruben embodied throughout his life.

Ruben served honorably and proudly in the Massachusetts Army National Guard.

Ruben was not just a man, but a soul of kindness who touched the hearts of people around him. Though he never formally held employment, Ruben made a significant impact on his community. He was a man of quiet strength, always quick with a smile, and his mere presence seemed to light up any room he entered. His love for life and people was infectious and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In the words of Albert Einstein, "Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile," which accurately describes Ruben's approach to life.

He was the beloved son of the late Ruben Asencio Sr. and the late Laura Asencio. Above all, he was a devoted and loving father to his children Corrie Asencio-Costa, Crystal Lowell (and her husband, Joshua Lowell), Jodie Asencio (Long-term Boyfriend, Nichols Bain), and Aaron Asencio-Winters who will forever cherish his love, guidance, and the life lessons he so generously shared. He was also a proud and loving grandfather to Lucian Lowell and Aidan Bain, who brought him great joy and will always carry his memory in their hearts.

Ruben was preceded in death by his sister, Maritza Asencio. He is lovingly remembered by his sisters Mildred Guadalupe, Madeline Matos, and Bernice Asencio, as well as by his many nieces and nephews.

Ruben had a deep appreciation for music, which was one of his greatest passions. He loved writing music and playing his instruments until his later years. He also found great joy in his enthusiasm for CB radios, repairing them, learning about them, and connecting with the friends he made along the way. He was a car enthusiast who took pride in entering his vehicles in car shows and spending peaceful weekends simply enjoying them.

Ruben will be remembered for his kind heart, his creativity, and the love he had for his family—values that will live on through all who knew and loved him.

Friends and Family are cordially invited to attend a public visitation at the Southcoast Funeral Home, inside of the Ferreira Chapel, 1555 Pleasant Street, Fall River, Massachusetts, 02723, on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. Public Visitation will be 09:00 AM – 11:00 AM followed by a Funeral Home Service at 11:00 AM. A Committal Service with Military Honors will be held at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne, Massachusetts, 02542 following the service.
