Sandra Rene Avery Hazelton, 82, born in Pitt County, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family.

Sandra spent most of her life in Winterville, NC, where she built a life centered on family, kindness, laughter, and creating a welcoming home for those she loved. She had a gift for making people smile and a warmth that put others at ease almost immediately. Whether through a story, a laugh, or simply her presence, she brought comfort and joy to the people around her.

More than anything, Sandra loved her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose greatest happiness came from time spent with those closest to her. She is lovingly remembered by her son, Lyn Hazelton; her daughter-in-law, Sara Hazelton; her grandson, Holton Hazelton; and her granddaughter, Mary Rose Hazelton. She is also survived by her brothers, Tim Avery and wife Lynn, Randy Avery and wife Debbie, and Wayne Avery and wife Faye, along with extended family and friends who will deeply miss her.

Sandra enjoyed traveling and believed that the journey itself was often just as meaningful as the destination. She appreciated the simple pleasures of the open road, good company, and the music she loved—especially Willie Nelson and outlaw country songs that seemed to match her independent spirit and appreciation for life's honest moments.

Those who knew Sandra will remember her for her love of family, her gentle heart, her sense of humor, and the way she made ordinary moments feel special. Her memory will live on in the stories shared by those who loved her and in the countless lives she touched through her kindness and generosity.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 6:00 PM on Saturday May 30, 2026 at Red Oak Christian Church located at 1827 Greenville Blvd SW, Greenville, NC 27834
