Obituary

Wilma was born in Bessemer, Alabama, to the late John and Enda Mills Lewis. She attended Wenonah High School and later moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where she graduated from Glenville High School.

Wilma later moved back to Alabama, where she gave birth to her beloved son, Derrick D. Lewis, who meant everything to her. In search of a better life for herself and Derrick, Wilma moved to the Boston, Massachusetts, area where she made her home for more than 60 years. During her time there, Wilma was employed in the medical field and worked at several hospitals. It was during that time Wilma became one of Jehovah's Witnesses and served faithfully for close to 50 years.

Wilma devoted her life to her son, her faith, and her grandchildren. She stayed true to her beliefs and truly loved the South Congregation, where she was a member, in Fall River, Massachusetts. Family and faith were always at the top of Wilma's priorities.

Wilma will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her son, Derrick D. Lewis; both her parents; the stepmother who raised her, Geneva Lewis; two sisters, Johnnie M. Lewis and Geneva Lewis; and two brothers, Ronnie and Anthony Lewis.

She will be lovingly remembered by her six grandchildren, Derrick R. Lewis of New Hampshire, Marquis Bennett (Sakina) of Raynham, Deandra (Dee Dee) Lewis of New Bedford, Shanice (Ryan) Lea of Mattapoisett, Massachusetts, Nemiah (Nemo) and Camryn Lewis of Fall River; ten great-grandchildren; brothers, John J. Lewis of Cleveland, Ohio, Isaac Lewis of Birmingham, Alabama, and David Lewis of Bessemer, Alabama; and sister, Yvonne (Reverend Lorenza) Johnson of Pleasant Grove, Alabama; special cousin, Shirley Moore of Birmingham; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would also like to extend special thanks to her spiritual brother Chris Johnson.

Friends and Family are Cordially invited to attend a public visitation at Southcoast Funeral Homes, inside of the Ferreira Chapel. 1555 Pleasant Street, Fall River, Massachusetts, 02723, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 9:00 AM 11:00 AM.
